Dear PBL members,

I’m Zehra Ahmed, and I’d like to introduce myself as your new state president for the 2011-2012 school year. I’m a junior at ASU studying Finance. I’m excited to work with all of you and make this a memorable year for PBL. This year I, along with the state officer team, hope to accomplish several things. In line with my goals, I would like to start committees within Arizona PBL. There is information about the committees at the end of this e-mail. Please let me know if there is a committee that you are interested in joining.Goals
First of all, I would like to increase collaboration between chapters. Right now, we generally get to network with other chapters at conferences. I think success is only as good as our communication, so I think it would be great if we could work on projects together and network with each other regularly throughout the year. I hope to see us unify and work together on community service and other ventures with more than just our own chapter.

Secondly, I want to make our PBL state website more dynamic. The state officers will be working hard to enrich our website and give it more features along with updating the content often. Please feel free to give me any suggestions on what you would like to see on the website.

Thirdly, I want to increase membership and recruitment efforts throughout the state. The state officer team is constantly thinking of creative new ways to stimulate involvement and increase membership. I encourage all of you to spread the word about PBL to your friends, classmates, professors, and other peers. The more members we have, the more fun and competitive of an environment it will be at conferences and meetings. Arizona PBL will have more energy.

Committees

Please let me know if there is a committee that you would like to join – they will definitely be a lot of fun!Event committee – You would be working with Jordan Borchert (VP of Programs) to plan and conduct events. This can include inter-chapter volunteer activities, socials, trips, etc. This committee is intended to create stronger bonds between members of different chapters. Recruitment committee – This committee will come up with innovate ways to recruit new members and increase member retention. We not only want new members to join, we them to stay and see that PBL is a great place that they can grow as leaders – this is what membership retention would be about. You would be in contact with the state officer team and we will all work together to help PBL grow.
If you have a suggestion for a committee, don’t hesitate to express your ideas. I want to take your great ideas and actualize them. I promise to utilize my position to its fullest potential, and to make sure it’s an enjoyable school year for all of us. I also promise to listen to all of your individual ideas and I will always respond to you. Please feel free to say hello and introduce yourself to me! I would love to hear from you. Have a great summer, and I hope to meet you at nationals.
Sincerely,

–

Each member may volunteer for any two events. You must contact me to volunteer.

Arizona can have three entries for written objective test events and two entries for other events (see attached list)

If you have competed in an event previously at the NLC you may not compete in that again, except for team events where a specified number of team members may compete again (see the national guidelines)

You should read the National Competitive Event Guidelines before volunteering for an event http://www.fbla-pbl.org/web/page/660/sectionid/585/pagelevel/2/pbl.asp

Priority for placement in events will be given to those who placed in those events at the State Leadership Conference. If you placed in an event and would like to claim your spot for the NLC, please let me know ASAP so that I can keep everyone updated on what events are still available. If the SLC winners do not choose to compete at the NLC, members will be placed based on their performance at the SLC in that event or similar events.

There are enough competitor spots to allow everyone attending the NLC to compete in something

May 1 - the sign-up (volunteer) deadline for skills events and events requiring reports or materials to be submitted to the National Office (see attached list)

May 12 – the sign-up (volunteer) deadline for all other events (see attached list)

May 13 – reports and materials must be received at the National Office

May 20 – completed skills tests must be received at the National Office

I hope everyone can make it. Please let me know if you have any questions.
