Program of Work

The state officer team has established a set of broad goals for the year, our Program of Work (POW). We encourage local chapter leadership to assist us in achieving these goals whenever possible.

Communication

 Objective:  Improve the sharing of ideas and information among members and officers at all levels
Enhance communication between the state officers and the local chapters and members by improving and promoting the state website.
Surveys on website

  • Contacts for local chapters.
  • Updating calendar
  • Integration with social media
  • Bringing our knowledge to the group via website (e.g., blog posts)
  • Keep content changing to build interest
  • Aggregate info/news from all chapters
  • More professional design, market to sponsors.
  • Incorporate advertising/sponsor promotions 

Increase communication by making more use of social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter

  • Post more updates
  • Post more pictures
  • Tag members in pictures

Host “town hall” meetings on Skype to share ideas

Email minutes from State Officer Meetings to chapters and post on website

Update members on State Officer business through emails, state website blog posts and Facebook updates

Improve communication within the State Officer Team

  • Officer To Do list sent out one day after officer meetings
  • Officer Liaison checks in with officers 20 days before next meeting
  • State Officers send email update to team on their status in between meetings
  • Meeting agenda sent out one week prior to meeting

 

Local Chapter Recruitment

 Objective:  Establish at least two new PBL chapters to increase membership

 Target schools where we have connections and/or best potential

  • Estrella Mountain
  • Glendale
  • Mesa
  • NAU – main campus
  • Pima Community College
  • Scottsdale
  • South Mountain
  • University of Arizona

 Contact and/or visit schools to gain support of administration and to find an adviser

 Contact former FBLA members and assist them in starting chapter

 

FBLA Recruitment

 Objective:  Enhance exposure to FBLA members to increase future PBL membership

 Have a PBL “presence” at all FBLA conferences and major events

  • PBL recruitment booths
  • Presenting workshops

 Visit local FBLA chapters

 Help FBLA students prep for state and national competitions

 Increase interaction with FBLA state and local officers

  • Guest speaker/workshop at FBLA State Officer Meeting (e.g., discuss transition to college / 1st year college experiences)
  • Assist with Chapter Officer Training
  • Social activities

 Assist in the recruitment of new high school FBLA chapters

 Develop method of measuring PBL outreach to FBLA

 

Member Recruitment

 Objective:  Assist PBL local chapters in efforts to recruit new PBL members

 Develop new recruitment materials

  • Brochures
  • Videos

 Encourage local chapter officers to plan recruitment efforts and share successes with other chapters

 Promote the Virtual PBL chapter as an option for students at schools with no current PBL chapter

Programs

Objective:  Enhance the overall PBL experience by offering more state community service and social activities

 Encourage support of the March of Dimes

  • Develop statewide activity to raise awareness and funds
  • Consider expanding ASU’s “Baby Olympics”
  • Other event(s)

Participate in WalkAmerica

 Develop a community service project supporting another charitable organization

  • Habitat for Humanity
  • Relay for Life

 Integrate community service projects with marketing efforts to promote PBL

 Host social activities in conjunction with each PBL conference

 Promote summer activity after national conference

  • DBacks group
  • Movie night

 Encourage local chapters to invite other chapters to their social events

Fundraising and Sponsorship

Objective:  Conduct fundraising activities and seek sponsors to increase funding for the state chapter that will benefit the entire organization

 Organize and administer at least one statewide fundraising project (e.g., NASCAR food sales)

 Define “Donor Levels” and what PBL can offer to businesses

 Develop a standard presentation and brochure that can be used to promote PBL to businesses

 Create resources for local chapter to use in targeting businesses for sponsorship opportunities

 Utilize networking opportunities with professors/instructors to gain contacts with potential sponsors

 Contact existing national and state FBLA-PBL sponsors

 Align PBL marketing/promotion efforts with the goals of potential sponsors

 Encourage local chapters to share information on their successes in obtaining sponsors

Other

Encourage participation in the Career and Membership Achievement Program (CMAP)
